German MP Caroline Bosbach calls for equal religious freedoms worldwide, warns against state promotion of faith
05/08/2026BERLIN — German lawmaker Caroline Bosbach of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has called for ensuring that Christians in Muslim-majority countries are able to freely practice their religious rituals, while emphasizing that the state must remain neutral toward all religions.
Bosbach said that all citizens have the right to freely practice their faith, expressing hope that Christians living in Muslim-majority countries would enjoy religious freedoms comparable to those available to Muslims in Germany.

Bosbach stressed that the state’s responsibility is to safeguard freedom of religion and ensure equal treatment for all faith communities. She argued that authorities should neither promote any particular religion nor provide one faith with special support or a privileged role at the expense of others.
She described the principle of state neutrality toward religion as essential for protecting freedom of belief and religious practice, as well as ensuring equality among all religious communities.
