Syriac Women’s Union organizes training course in Beth Zalin (Qamishli), Syria, to strengthen Women’s leadership and community engagement

BETH ZALIN, Syria — The Beth Zalin (Qamishli) branch of the Syriac Women’s Union in Syria (Huyodo d’Neshe Suryoye b’Suriya, HNSS) organized a three-day open organizational training course with the participation of more than 25 women, including HNSS members, activists, and individuals interested in community affairs. The initiative was part of a program aimed at developing women’s capacities and enhancing their role in public life.

The course focused on strengthening participants’ organizational and intellectual skills through a series of sessions addressing the importance of teamwork, initiative, leadership development, and the principles of institutional work, as well as their role in promoting a culture of commitment and responsibility within society.

The organizers emphasized that women’s empowerment is not limited to developing individual skills but is also linked to women’s ability to actively participate in community initiatives and organized work. They described women as a key element in building a more cohesive and aware society.

The program also included a session on the concept of “special warfare,” which explored methods of influencing societies through psychological warfare, media manipulation, the spread of rumors, and attempts to undermine identity and social values. The session highlighted the importance of awareness, critical thinking, and community organization in addressing these challenges.

The course featured discussions and active engagement among participants, who exchanged experiences and perspectives on women’s roles in various social and organizational fields. The HNSS described the continuation of such training programs as an important step toward preparing women leaders capable of contributing to community work and strengthening women’s presence in social institutions.

The initiative forms part of the HNSS’s broader efforts to develop programs aimed at raising awareness, building capacities, and enhancing women’s participation in social, cultural, and organizational spheres.
