Training camp for the New England Patriots is just over two weeks away, and with that will come an opportunity to see how many players cement themselves in the roles that they have, or strive for more.
Trade rumors surrounding Kayshon Boutte, Christian Gonzalez’s potential contract extension, as well as rookie Gabe Jacas’ signing status dominated the offseason up until the conclusion of the team’s mandatory minicamp. As the offseason transitions to summer activities, several players will have all eyes on them in training camp with major storylines to follow, including a slew of rookies that will be needed to perform at a high level at key positions in 2026.

Caleb Lomu
Will Campbell’s status as the Patriots’ starting left tackle is liable to change if he does not improve upon his play from last season in 2026. Further, Morgan Moses is nearing retirement, which will also create a vacancy at the right tackle position as soon as next offseason.
Lomu is the next man up to occupy either tackle slot if a starting role frees up, and he will also be the primary backup. His performance in training camp, particularly in joint practices, will give New England a good look at how ready he is to help the team protect Drake Maye in the pocket and advance toward becoming an elite offensive line.

Quintayvious Hutchins
The Patriots still haven’t signed Gabe Jacas after selecting him with the No. 55 overall pick in this year’s draft. New England needs high-quality backups on the edge behind Harold Landry and Dre’Mont Jones next season, and with Jacas’ status up in the air, Hutchins becomes the next man up.

Hutchins recorded two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in 2025 at Boston College. He’s been in legal trouble this offseason, but being on the field will give him the chance to make an impression on the coaching staff and earn a meaningful share of snaps next season, despite the Patriots having capable veteran backups such as Elijah Ponder, Bradyn Swinson and Jesse Luketa.
Karon Prunty
The Patriots have a strong duo at outside corner with Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis III. However, New England needs their backup contributors to play well when called upon, and Prunty will be given the chance to establish himself as the primary backup in training camp.
Prunty is listed as the Patriots’ backup corner behind Gonzalez for next season, and he will get the chance to be featured a good deal in the rotation next season with an impressive showing in training camp.
