5 highest-drafted Alabama basketball players in NBA history

A list that has continued to grow in recent years, Alabama basketball has a storied history of players who have been selected in the NBA draft, some of which have gone within the Top 10 overall picks.

Among those are some of the greatest players to ever suit up for the Crimson Tide, a list which includes former SEC Players of the Year, top recruits, and much more. A majority of these also went on to see success whilst in the NBA, with some still in the league today as some of their respective teams' top players.

Here are the five highest-drafted Alabama basketball players in NBA history, as of the 2025 draft, as well as what each went on to do in the league.

Miller is the first-of-two Alabama players who have been selected with the No. 2 overall pick, taken by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2023 NBA draft. The former Alabama standout recently concluded his third season in Charlotte, and has averaged a combined 19 points, 4.6 rebounds, and three assists per game so far during his young NBA career.

Antonio McDyess, Forward

McDyess is the second of those two Alabama players who have been selected No. 2 overall, taken with that pick in the 1995 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. The former Alabama forward went on to have an accomplished 15-year NBA career in which he averaged a combined 12 points and 7.5 rebounds per game with five different teams, a stretch which also included one All-Star selection in 2000-01.

Douglas was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 1976 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. The former Alabama center went on to play seven seasons in the NBA with two different teams, averaging a combined 7.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

Sexton was Alabama's highest-drafted player of the 2010's, selected No. 8 overall in the 2018 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The former Alabama guard recently concluded his eighth NBA season, and so far during his time in the league, has averaged a combined 18.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists a game with four different teams.

McKey came off the board with the No. 9 overall pick in the 1987 NBA draft, selected by the Seattle SuperSonics. A two-time NBA All-Defensive selection, McKey played 15 seasons in the league with three different teams, averaging a combined 11 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.
