9 MHSAA softball teams around Hometown Life won district championships

The busiest day on the MHSAA sports calendar didn’t disappoint, especially with nine teams from the Hometown Life region claiming softball district titles on May 29-30. That included a whopping seven teams in Division 1 alone.

Check out which teams brought home trophies following district final matchups and which players stood out during the opening rounds of the 2026 postseason:

Northville 14, Canton 0

Jocelyn Burns and Kendall Heron drove in four and three runs, respectively, to send the fourth-ranked Mustangs (32-4-1) to the regional final against Gibraltar Carlson. But the real story was Wayne State commit Mary Gugala winning a pitcher's duel against Murray State signee Shannon McAuliffe in a 5-0 district semifinal win over No. 9 Salem. Gugala struck out 10. McAuliffe struck out five while allowing two earned runs on two hits and six walks.

Bloomfield Hills 2, Rochester Adams 1

The Black Hawks (14-21) advanced to the regional semifinal against Utica thanks to Avery Howland's walk-off single that scored Lila Lazor in the eighth inning. Lola McMurtrie singled home Howland for the tying run in the seventh to force extra innings. Cameron Howland struck out nine, walked three and allowed just three hits.

Livonia Stevenson 9, Livonia Franklin 2

Maggie Sosnowski smacked two home runs to send the Spartans (25-10) into the regional semifinal against Allen Park. She finished 3-for-3 with three RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Pitchers Allie Cramer and Brooke Benaske combined to strike out nine Patriots.

Farmington 14, Walled Lake Western 4

Amelia Porterfield smacked an inside-the-park home run, drove in six runs and scored three times to send the Falcons (27-7) to the regional semifinal against Southfield A&T. Raniya Foster finished 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored, while Kaiya Jones also homered.

Birmingham Seaholm 17, Berkley 0

The Maples (30-8) outscored their district opponents 37-0, highlighted by Leah Stanford going 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored against the Bears. Lila Nursey and Adele Bush combined to strike out 12 and send Seaholm to the regional semifinal against Walled Lake Northern.

Walled Lake Northern 6, White Lake Lakeland 3

The Knights (34-3) ruled Huron Valley schools, first beating Milford 18-0 before winning the Battle of Bogey Lake rivalry against White Lake Lakeland to advance to the regional semifinal against Birmingham Seaholm. Toledo signee Lyla Turmell struck out 17, while Olivia Frellick went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored.

Livonia Churchill 17, Belleville 5

Clare Carpen got it done on both sides for the Chargers (26-6), who advanced to face Saline in the regional semifinal. Carpen struck out six and then went 5-for-5 with a staggering nine RBIs, a home run, a double and a run scored. Tayler Fisher also starred, going 5-for-5 with two RBIs and five runs scored.

Farmington Hills Mercy 1, Dearborn Divine Child 0

Vanessa Husband scored on a wild pitch in the second inning to send the Marlins (17-17) to the regional semifinal against Grosse Pointe North. Pitcher Anna McGavin struck out 14 while allowing just two hits and one walk.

Plymouth Christian Academy advances via forfeit

The Eagles (16-14) downed Wixom St. Catherine, 11-0, in the district semifinal, but their district final opponent, Detroit Community, did not show up. PCA advanced to the regional semifinal at St. Hedwig Park in Detroit.
