Antonelli amazed by Verstappen's overtake on Hamilton

Kimi Antonelli couldn’t hide his astonishment when he saw Max Verstappen’s overtake on Lewis Hamilton. In the Green Room, the sentence the Italian uttered was full of admiration.

Verstappen surprised Hamilton during the Hungarian Grand Prix with a phenomenal overtaking move. Just when Hamilton seemed to have finally shaken off Verstappen, the Dutchman dove up the inside of Hamilton as he went to pass Liam Lawson. Hamilton got by Lawson, but with his move Verstappen passed both Lawson and Hamilton.

After the Grand Prix, Antonelli and Verstappen were already sitting together in the green room watching the highlights of the Hungarian GP. Naturally, Verstappen’s overtake came up as well. Antonelli clearly hadn’t seen the footage yet and exclaimed “oh my god” when Verstappen’s move appeared on screen.

Verstappen reacts matter-of-factly to overtake

Verstappen, for his part, was matter-of-fact about the overtake. He saw the gap and went for it. According to the four-time world champion, it was simply his only chance to pass Hamilton’s Ferrari at the Hungaroring.

It paid off. With the overtake, Verstappen stayed ahead of his rival and ultimately finished the race in second place. Hamilton briefly ran second again but decided to pit under the VSC for Oscar Piastri. That didn’t work out well for the Brit, who dropped all the way back to P5, behind Kimi Antonelli and teammate Charles Leclerc.
