The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.

Here is punter Blake Gillikin.

Blake Gillikin background, 2025 season

Gillikin enters his seventh NFL season and fourth with the Cardinals. He was a rookie free agent in 2020 out of Penn State in 2020 and signed originally with the New Orleans Saints. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve and then punted two seasons for them.

He was cut in 2023, but the Cardinals picked him up early in the season and has been their punter ever since, when healthy. Last season, he played only five games and spent the rest of the season on injured reserve with a back injury. In those five games, he led the NFL with a 51.7-yard punting average. His career 48.5-yard per-punt average is an NFL all-time record.

Blake Gillikin contract details, salary cap hit

Gillikin was an unrestricted free agent and returned on a one-year deal. His contract is worth more than $1.9 million. He received a $255,000 signing bonus and will make $1.25 million in salary with $150,000 of that guaranteed. His cap hit will be over $1.7 million.

Roster outlook, questions he faces

With the Cardinals re-signing him after his back injury and not signing any other punter, they clearly are confident in him moving forward. He will be their punter, the only question is whether he can stay healthy, as he has twice suffered season-ending injuries in his career. He has been very good in his time in Arizona.
