Arsenal have confirmed that young defender Callan Hamill has signed his first professional contract with the club, following his first full season with the Gunners’ academy.

“I moved away from home last year and joined Arsenal last season and had a really good season last season. So, it’s been a good year so far, so looking forward to kicking on.”

Hamill turned 17 in March, so he’s only been eligible for a professional contract for a few months, having joined Arsenal from St. Johnstone FC last summer.
The Scotland u19 international played 35 times in his first season with the Gunners, splitting his time between the u18s, the u19s, and the u21s. He made many appearances at both right-back and centre-back, with the team making good use of that versatility.

Before joining Arsenal, Hamill had made his first-team debut for St. Johnstone, though only for one cameo appearance as a substitute.
The young defender will remain eligible for u18 football this season, but it’s likely he’ll step up to the u21s on an even more regular basis after an encouraging debut campaign in north London.
