Six people died and dozens were injured in daytime missile strikes around Kiev on Friday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Glide bombs also killed at least five people in Sloviansk near the front lines in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, Zelensky posted on Telegram.

Authorities sounded a missile alert in the capital shortly before noon. Russia fired at least 10 ballistic missiles at the city, as well as Zircon guided missiles, the state news agency UNIAN reported.

Several explosions were heard over the city. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, ambulances were also deployed.

The surrounding area was hit even harder, with Zelensky citing rescue and recovery operations and posting photos of devastated residential blocks.

Russia has massively intensified its missile attacks on Kiev in recent weeks, causing repeated casualties among the civilian population.

Evacuation urged in Sloviansk

Russian attacks also had serious consequences in Sloviansk: In addition to the five dead, nine people were injured after glide bombs struck the city, the Ukrainian governor of the Donetsk region, Vadym Filashkin, wrote on Telegram.

Ten residential buildings were damaged, as well as a factory and the building of the Latvian honorary consul, he said.

Ukrainian captive reportedly murdered

Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities accused Moscow's forces of executing another prisoner of war. Russian troops had captured the soldier in Yalta in the Donetsk region, the regional prosecutor's office announced.

On the orders of a superior officer, a Russian soldier shot the captive after an interrogation. The prosecutor's office is investigating the incident as a war crime.
