Battle Jacks players shine at Northwoods League All-Star Game

Battle Creek Battle Jacks players were part of winning effort at the Northwoods League All-Star Game, played at the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville, Iowa.

The Great Lakes All-Stars defeated the Great Plains All-Stars 4-2 on July 8 as part of the Northwoods League All-Star Game festivities.

Battle Creek's Brendan Thompson was 1-for-1 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in the win. The Battle Jacks' Jake Stedman started at second base and earned a walk and scored a run.

Christian Lopez led the Battle Jacks in hitting in the first half of the season. Playing 20 games, Lopez hit .311. Thompson hit .302, playing 42 games with 24 RBIs with a team-high 34 runs and team-high 49 hits. A.J. Lucas led Battle Creek with 27 RBIs with Stedman having 26 RBIs.

On the mound, Craig Kabat led the team with 25 strikeouts and was 2-1 in the first half over 17 innings. Jackson Phelps led the team with 30.2 innings pitched with six starts. Bryce Ewing has pitched in a game-high 15 games in relief and 24.2 innings.

Battle Jacks - Week of July 6-12

The Battle Jacks were off most of the week with the Northwoods League All-Star Game scheduled. Battle Creek played a two-game homestand against Royal Oak at the end of the week and began a four-game series with rival Kalamazoo on Sunday. Battle Creek has opened the second half of the season at 2-6 and trails first-place Traverse City by four games.

Battle Creek will only have one home game during the week of July 13-19, hosting Kalamazoo on Tuesday.

What's Next?

Battle Creek will feature several promotions in the second half of the season.

July 24 is Post Cereal Night featuring a Post balloon flyover.

July 25 will include a Margaritaville Night and Yacht Rock concert.

July 26 is Russell's 5th Birthday celebration and Family Day.
