The woman killed in the suspected Islamist attack at Berlin Pride was from Poland, Mayor Kai Wegner said on Monday.

Wegner said the victim was a Polish national who had been visiting the city with her daughter.

The incident occurred on Saturday in Berlin's Tiergarten park during Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebrations, the name used for Pride events in Germany.

Wegener was speaking at the opening of an exhibition on the 1944 Warsaw Uprising in the Berlin City Hall, where he expressed his condolences to the Polish chargé d'affaires, Jan Tombinski.

"I am deeply moved by what happened on Saturday, and my thoughts are with you and, above all, with the daughter and the family of the murdered woman," said Wegner.

"This terrorist attack was motivated by hatred. We need more cooperation, more solidarity, less hatred and fewer wars in the world," Wegener said.

CSD in Berlin was called off on Saturday evening after a car ploughed into a crowd. One woman was killed, and 29 other people were injured.

The suspected perpetrator, Abdul B., was killed during a police operation on Sunday evening.
