On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers were on a mission to pick up a series win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park in San Diego. It appeared there were a lot of Dodgers fans in attendance, too, as their cheers and boos were heard loudly.

The Dodgers didn't give them any reason to boo on Sunday as Mookie Betts' key two-run single and Emmet Sheehan's solid outing helped them drop the Padres 4-2. In doing so, Los Angeles earned a series victory in San Diego.

Besides winning two straight, the Dodgers have gone 7-3 in their past 10 games. They now hold a 10-game lead over the Padres, who are in second place in the National League West Division.

Sheehan Looked Solid for Dodgers

Sheehan, who goes to 4-5 this season with the win, worked 5.0 innings, gave up two hits, one earned run, walked two, struck out five, and gave up one home run. That home run was a solo blast by the Padres' Manny Machado.

Alex Vesia, Will Klein, and Tanner Scott all earned holds coming out of the Los Angeles bullpen for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. Edgardo Henriquez was the man who shut the door on San Diego on Sunday afternoon. Henriquez worked a clean ninth inning and earned his first save this season.

Michael King took the loss for the Padres, falling to 5-7 in the 2026 MLB season. King gave up three hits in 4.1 innings of work. He also allowed four earned runs, walked four, and struck out five. After King left, the Padres' bullpen didn't allow a run, either earned or not, to Los Angeles.

Shohei Ohtani made his presence felt for the Dodgers in the top of the first with an RBI single that scored Alex Freeland. Los Angeles held an early 1-0 lead. Machado hit his 15th home run this season in the bottom of the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1.

The Dodgers, though, weren't going to stay down much longer. Los Angeles came out and put up a three-spot in the top of the sixth inning. With two on and one out, Andy Pages was hit by a King pitch, loading the bases. On a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded, Freddie Freeman walked and forced in a run.

Betts Comes Through With Clutch Hit

Los Angeles went up 2-1 at that time, but there was more scoring to come in the inning. With the bases still loaded, Betts came through with a base hit. Ohtani and Pages scored, with the Dodgers extending their lead to 4-1.

San Diego rallied for a run in the bottom of the sixth. Jackson Merrill singled off Vesia to open the inning. Machado made the inning's first out, and Merrill stole second base -- his 17th stolen base this season. Gavin Sheets struck out for the second out of the inning, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts pulled Vesia in exchange for Klein.

Xander Bogaerts singled, scoring Merrill and cutting into the Los Angeles lead at 4-2.

But the Dodgers' bullpen tightened up and didn't allow the Padres to get on the board anymore.

Los Angeles isn't returning to Dodger Stadium just yet. The Dodgers will take a short plane ride from San Diego to Las Vegas. On Monday night, they open a three-game series against the Athletics at Las Vegas Ballpark.
