Big question facing Colts defensive end position heading into minicamp

Mandatory minicamp will take place for the Indianapolis Colts from June 9-11. This is often the last big milestone in the NFL offseason calendar before training camp arrives in late July.

Through the first two weeks of OTA practices, we've gained some valuable insights into where things stand on the depth chart, along with who may be standing out early on, but questions at each position group remain, and that's normal at this time of the year. It won't be until training camp and the preseason take place that playing time and final roster decisions are made.

So as part of our Colts' minicamp preview, let's highlight the one big question facing each position group. Next up are the defensive ends.

Who emerges and earns the starting role opposite of Laiatu Latu?

The Colts experienced a heavy amount of roster turnover at defensive end this offseason. Kwity Paye, Tyquan Lewis, and Samson Ebukam are no longer on the team, while GM Chris Ballard added Arden Key and Micheal Clemons in free agency, and then drafted George Gumbs and Caden Curry.

However, whether or not they found an impact presence to pair with Latu remains to be seen.

Most likely competing for these snaps are Jaylahn Tuimoloau, who played just 215 defensive snaps as a rookie, and Key, who has primarily been a rotational defender during his career.

As a collective unit in 2025, the Colts' defensive front ranked 30th in ESPN's pass rush win rate. More pass rush juice around Latu is a must this season.

The name of the game is getting after the quarterback, and in order for the Colts defense to take a step forward this season, more consistent pressure on the quarterback will go a long way towards accomplishing that.
