Boston Red Sox Reportedly Acquire Infielder in Trade with Athletics
Zach CoeWed, Jul 1, 2026·3 min readAfter Tuesday night’s loss to the Washington Nationals, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly added to the infield depth in a minor trade with the Athletics.
According to Chris Cotillo of Masslive.com, the Red Sox are “closing in on” a deal to acquire infielder Brett Harris from the A’s, with Andrew Parker of SoxProspects adding that pitching prospect Ben Hansen is headed the other way.

The 28-year-old infielder has appeared in parts of three seasons for the A’s with little major league success. In 73 games, Harris is hitting just .194/.307/.289/.595 with only three home runs and 17 RBI.
Harris has spent the majority of the 2026 season with Triple-A El Paso, where he hit .336/.441/.537/.978 with five home runs and 34 RBI, while ranking in the 93rd percentile in hard-hit rate. He has appeared in five games at the major league level, going 0-for-4 with one walk.
Defensively, Harris has played primarily third base, posting five defensive runs saved in 183 innings at the position in 2025. He has also spent time at first and second base in the majors.

The Red Sox selected Hansen with their 20th-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Brigham Young University, signing him for $50,000. The 24-year-old has spent the 2026 season with High-A Greenville. In 13 appearances (two starts), Hansen has allowed 22 earned runs on 41.2 innings of work, striking out 11.23 batters per nine innings. In 102.1 innings pitched in his career across Single-A Salem and Greenville, Hansen has a 5.63 ERA.

Left-handed rookie Connelly Early departed Tuesday night's loss after four scoreless innings with left elbow discomfort. Interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters after the game that the 24-year-old would undergo additional imaging to determine the extent of the injury on Wednesday.
The Red Sox will look to make it two consecutive series wins and a 6-1 homestand on Wednesday afternoon in the series finale against the Nationals. Payton Tolle (4-5, 2.78 ERA) will get the start for Boston opposite Andrew Alvarez (1-1, 3.44 ERA) for Washington. First pitch from Fenway Park set for 1:35 p.m. ET.
