Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy shared high praise for Brayan Bello after his outing on Friday.

“He was awesome,” interim manager Chad Tracy said postgame on Friday. “He came in and quieted that game down pretty quickly and gave us a shot. He was as good as we could ask for.”
Tracy, meanwhile, said the team is still trying to figure out why Bello has struggled in the first, as the Red Sox would prefer to use him as a traditional opener.
“It’s hard to figure that out,” Tracy said. “Obviously you can’t ignore the fact that Bello’s been very successful [having an opener], and ultimately having him be successful in a starter role would be great.”

After pitching seven scoreless innings, Bello is now 2-5 with a 5.63 ERA in 11 games, including seven starts. The right-hander is in the third year of his six-year, $55 million deal with the Red Sox.
