Caitlin Clark in on the brink of a WNBA suspension
The good news for the Indiana Fever is that they were able to pull out a blowout 123-88 win over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night. The bad news is that superstar Caitlin Clark is now on the brink of a suspension.
Late in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s game, Clark picked up a technical foul after an interaction with Sun guard Saniya Rivers. The incident came with just 28 seconds remaining on the clock. After Clark tossed the ball to an official following a foul call, Rivers gestured toward her, and the two began exchanging words. The two players were quickly whistled for double technical fouls.

While the technical foul was totally unimportant in the game at hand, as the Fever had already clinched victory long before that moment, it does have significant ramifications going forward. The latest technical foul gives Clark seven on the season. If she receives one more technical foul at any point this season, she will be forced to serve a one-game suspension.
While that’s obviously not an ideal situation, Clark does not think it will “hinder” her playing style.

That intensity and that fire is what makes me me, but also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don’t think I’m gonna be playing with that in the back of my head.”
Coach Stephanie White is unconcerned
Clark herself did not seem too worried about her foul situation, and neither did Fever head coach Stephanie White.
“Anybody who thinks that I have a plan to be strategic about technical fouls is crazy,” White said. “I mean, look, she’s just gotta pick and choose, right? She’s gotta pick and choose, and it’s every two after that. So I think the biggest thing is she knows, she has awareness about it.

Still, it’s not a great situation for Clark to be in with so much of the season still ahead of them.
