Can the Tennessee Titans offensive tackles just be good enough?

The Tennessee Titans are off on summer vacation and won't return until training camp begins in late July. Coach Robert Saleh and general manager Mike Borgonzi have spent half a year reinventing the Titans depth chart in Saleh's image, making changes in an attempt to create depth and playmaking dynamism after back-to-back 3-14 seasons.

To bridge the summer break into the season, The Tennessean is looking at each Titans position group individually and evaluating the big questions that will determine how the Titans' 2026 season goes. Now, we look at JC Latham and the Titans' offensive line.

Too many recent Titans seasons have been derailed by bad tackle play. Last season... wasn't that? Moore and Latham weren't superstars, but let's put it this way: Last year was the first seasons since 2021 where a Titans starting quarterback didn't feel more than 50% of his pressures coming from off tackle.

For years, the bar was the Titans' offense might be able to work if they get league-average tackle play. There's an argument that that's what they got in 2025, and the offense was still a mess.

Now, of course, things are different. The Titans invested in wide receiver depth like they never have before. QB Cam Ward isn't a rookie anymore. Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's play calling track record is more impressive than Brian Callahan's was. Add league-average tackle play in with all those improvements and maybe ― just maybe ― the axiom can ring true in 2026.

But there's also the reality of the modern NFL. The Titans play more than half of their games against top-tier edge rushers like Will Anderson Jr., Aidan Hutchinson, Maxx Crosby, Brian Burns, Trey Hendrickson, Danielle Hunter, Jonathan Greenard, Jared Verse and T.J. Watt. If Moore and Latham play the way they did last year, the Titans figure to be overmatched off the edge in most of their games. And while that's becoming increasingly true for most teams, it's hard for the Titans in particular to not be nervous about this given the memories of how badly Dennis Daley, Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere derailed past seasons.

So what does good enough look like in Moore and Latham's cases? If the two of them can combine to allow three or fewer pressures per game, the Titans are probably in a fine position relative to the rest of the league. It's admittedly a low bar, and one the duo did achieve in 2025. But that's the standard for good enough, and it's time to see good enough actually be good enough to translate into results on offense.

Titans depth chart: Offensive line

*new to the Titans in 2026 in italics*

  1. Dan Moore Jr., Peter Skoronski, Austin Schlottmann, Jackson Slater, JC Latham

  2. Austin Deculus, Fernando Carmona, Pat Coogan, Cordell Volson, Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson

  3. Ryan Hayes, Garrett Dellinger, Andre James, Drew Moss, Aamil Wagner, Rasheed Miller

More offensive line questions: A speed read

  • Who's starting at center? Austin Schlottmann has the inside track.

  • Who's starting at right guard? This one feels like it'll come down to who wins camp between Cordell Volson and Jackson Slater.

  • Is this the year Peter Skoronski breaks through as an All-Pro? Probably not unless the Titans make the playoffs.

  • Is Austin Deculus enough at swing tackle? He's probably a downgrade from Oli Udoh last year, but his experience still matters.

  • Will the rookies play? We'll see, but consider it an uphill climb for Coogan and Carmona alike. Don't expect much playing time before November, if at all this year.
