Cincinnati Reds, pitcher Chase Burns agree to $105M contract

July 16 (UPI) -- The Cincinnati Reds and starting pitcher Chase Burns agreed to a seven-year, $105 million contract, agent Vayner Sports confirmed Thursday.

Burns, the No. 2 overall pick by the Reds in the 2024 MLB Draft, was 11-1, with a 2.54 ERA, through his first 18 starts this season en route to his first All-Star selection.

He was 0-3 with a 4.57 ERA over 13 appearances last season for the Reds. His pact with the Reds, which buys out his two years of free agency, will keep him under contract through 2033.

Burns did not appear in Tuesday's 2026 MLB All-Star Game due to a tightness in his groin.

The Reds (43-52) sit in last place in the National League Central, 15.5 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers (59-37).
