Claressa Shields still pursuing negotiations to face Lauren Price
Even though Claressa Shields made a public showing of going to Cardiff to have a face off with Lauren Price a few months ago, a fight between them still has yet to be finalized. So while Shields is currently scheduled to take on Kaye Scott next month, her promoter Dmitry Salita is still hoping to get a price fight signed and sealed. Salita says their side believed they had a framework deal in place for a Price fight not too long ago, and tells Sky Sports that he wants to proceed forward on that understanding.
“I believe we’re close. Claressa is moving down to 160lbs because she wants to make this fight happen. She’s already accomplished so much but she’s always looking for the biggest global fights…Lauren is an outstanding fighter and an Olympic gold medalist. This is one of the biggest fights that can be made in women’s boxing and we’re confident it will happen.”
Price doesn’t currently have anything on her fight schedule at the moment, last appearing in April with a wide decision win over Stephanie Pineiro Aquino. Whether or not a fight between Shields and herself actually gains enough traction to put pen to paper remains to be seen, but thus far it hasn’t lead to any real tangible results.
