Clemson wide receiver Tristan Smith is set for an important step in his push to play another season with the Tigers.

Smith posted Sunday that his court date is set for Monday, thanking the Clemson family for its continued support and prayers. The message drew plenty of reaction from fans, with several replying with well wishes as Smith continues his legal fight against the NCAA over his eligibility.

Smith filed a lawsuit against the NCAA earlier this year after his waiver request for another season was denied. The case centers on Smith’s argument that the NCAA has applied its waiver system inconsistently when it comes to players with junior college experience. His legal team has argued that the decision has cost him the chance to continue his college career, along with potential NIL and revenue-sharing opportunities.

He played his first season at the FBS level with the Tigers after previously playing at Southeast Missouri. In his first year at Clemson, Smith caught 24 passes for 239 yards and one touchdown. Before arriving in the ACC, he totaled 76 catches for 934 yards and six touchdowns at Southeast Missouri.

Smith's return would give the Tigers another experienced receiver in the room, but the bigger story is his fight for the chance to finish his college career on the field.

The outcome is now in the hands of the legal process. For now, Smith has made one thing clear: he appreciates the support around him as he waits for what comes next.
