Frashad Tisby, the no. 99 overall high school boys basketball recruit in the Class of 2027 per 247Sports, has officially committed to South Carolina. The forward out of Cross Creek chose the Gamecocks over other programs such as Arizona State, UAB and Marquette.

Tisby had been visiting his top schools throughout the month of September leading up to his ultimate decision. He took an official visit to South Carolina's campus on Sept. 18, though it wasn't his first time visiting the campus. The 6-foot-6 forward has been on a handful of unofficial visits during his high school career, no doubt due to the school being an hour out from the Augusta-area where he's is from. But during the latest visit, it finally clicked for Tisby.

"When I first got back on campus, I spoke to all the coaches, and I just kind of felt like it's where I need to be," Tisby said. "It felt like home for me."

The Gamecocks had shown interest in Tisby early in his high school career. They'd ultimately extend the offer to him during his junior year. But even after that, members of the South Carolina men's basketball coaching staff routinely made it out to Tisby's high school and AAU games. That consistency in their recruiting was one major factor in his decision.

The other part of the equation was how close the school is to home. Columbia, SC, is about an hour away from Augusta. Had Tisby chosen a school like Harvard or Arizona State, it wouldn't have been as easy for his family to come see him. Choosing South Carolina was as much of a family decision as it was a personal one for the four-star prospect.

"Instead of me having to get them a plane ticket, they're just an hour away for them to come watch games, come see the football games with me," Tisby said. "Being close by home just plays a big role being part of my family."

"I honestly think it's a great fit," former Cross Creek head coach Lawrence Kelly said. "He's close enough for his parents and friends and everybody to come support him, and I think it's just a good fit. I think he fits the offense that they have there, and the coaches are in love with him."

With the commitment, Tisby becomes the first player to sign with South Carolina head coach Lamont Paris for the 2027 recruiting cycle. While the senior is still a year away from suiting up in the garnet and black, he already is imagining what life will be like playing at Colonial Life Arena.

"[I'm] just ready for that basketball season to roll around, playing in front of the big Gamecock fanbase," Tisby said. "Just being supportive with thm, all the other faculty and everything, and hopefully having a chance to make it to March Madness."
