The Los Angeles Dodgers have no intention to sell, but they're only interested in buying if the price is right.

Pitcher Eric Lauer has been named as the most logical piece for the Dodgers to move on from, but is that someone a lot of teams are going to be interested in?

Recently, The Athletic compiled a list of 78 players who could be traded at the deadline. The Dodgers were linked to a few players, but one of the most notable was Cincinnati Reds utility player Spencer Steer.

Steer, 28, is still under team control for a few seasons. He's able to play nearly every position, and that's not overexaggerating. The California native could potentially come back to his home state in a move that would give LA even more depth than they already have.

Steer can truly do it all

Tim Britton, Johnny Flores Jr., Chad Jennings, and Eno Sarris came together for a massive trade deadline big board, one that sees Steer's name linked to a trio of teams.

"A Gold Glove finalist in 2025, Steer has become a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none type player. This season, he's appeared at every position but shortstop, catcher and pitcher," they wrote.

"At the plate, he barrels the ball at an above-average rate, and xSLG suggests that he's been unlucky with his actual rate. He won't be a free agent until 2029 and still has minor-league options. In any trade, finding him a permanent position is almost certainly the first course of action."

Knowing he still has multiple minor-league options, the Dodgers could easily bring him in and have him play at Triple-A. That may confuse some, but it keeps him on the field consistently. Everyday at-bats are vital for a player's development, and this is only Steer's fifth year in the majors.

A closer look at Steer's numbers

While he's comfortable playing everywhere, the majority of Steer's playing time has come at first base, left field, or right field. He's played at third base and center field the least and has just a combined 10 at-bats in those positions this season.

Steer is a 0.4 WAR player. He's been in the positives each of his five seasons, and his .246 batting average is the highest it's been since 2023. Overall, he's slashing .246/.324/.435 with a .759 OPS. He already has 16 home runs, and he crossed the 300 career RBI mark on Friday, July 17.
