Drew Brees' Longtime Trainer Praises Saints QB Tyler Shough
Jason AponteSat, July 25, 2026 at 1:17 AM UTC·2 min readWith training camp beginning soon for the New Orleans Saints, excitement is through the roof for the team and their chances to snap their postseason drought. Tyler Shough's development, coupled with the Saints' defense, led to a late-season charge for New Orleans, which the team wants to see continue in 2026.
It has been widely reported that Shough and the Saints' offensive weapons have been working out together, all on Shough's dime, with Drew Brees' longtime trainer, Todd Durkin. The mind, body, and life coach joined WWL Radio to discuss how impressed he's been with Shough and what influence Brees himself has on the second-year quarterback.

"The guys loved it, they got better and they’re getting excited for the season."
Durkin continued about Shough's work ethic and ability to absorb information from Brees.
"He worked his tail off in the weight room, he was asking a lot of questions about 'how do I get better in the core,' and ... he was really hungry to learn," Durkin continued, "and even with Drew out on the field, like, he was sharing some wisdom and it’s great to see a veteran helping out a younger guy and to have a younger guy who was open to receiving. Listen, he’s the real deal."
"Drew said it, this is where championships are made, in times that you don’t have to be here and you’re grinding," Durkin said, "and to see Tyler, how they responded to him … it’s really cool to see."

The vibes are all great heading into training camp. The vets are back, the culture is building, and the arrow is pointing up.
