VCU's postseason run came to an end Sunday as East Carolina defeated the Rams 10-0 in an elimination game at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at Boshamer Stadium.

The loss concluded a memorable season for VCU, which entered the contest coming off its second victory over a top-25 opponent and the program's first NCAA Tournament win under head coach Sean Thompson.

East Carolina wasted little time taking control, scoring three runs in the opening inning and never relinquishing the lead. The Pirates added to their advantage throughout the afternoon, scoring in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to pull away for the shutout victory.

VCU threatened early but was unable to capitalize. The Rams stranded five runners over the first three innings while falling behind 3-0.

Michael Petite provided one of the offensive highlights for VCU with a first-inning double, the team's 126th two-base hit of the season. The total ranks as the third-highest single-season doubles mark in program history.

Cooper Campbell kept the Rams within striking distance during the middle innings, using a pair of double plays and three strikeouts to prevent further damage until the fifth inning.

East Carolina eventually broke the game open, extending its lead to 10-0 with runs in three consecutive innings.

Nick Flores added an infield single in the sixth inning, helping the 2026 Rams become the first VCU team since 2010 to feature three players with at least 70 hits in a season. Flores joined Jacob Lee, who finished with 79 hits, and Nate Kirkpatrick, who recorded 73.

Caleb Clover closed out the season on the mound for VCU, retiring the side in order during the eighth inning.

The Rams finished the year showing resilience throughout postseason play, winning four elimination games between the Atlantic 10 Championship and NCAA Regional before their run ended against East Carolina.
