ESPN's Brian Windhorst unimpressed with Pistons offseason moves
The Detroit Pistons have done a lot to remake their roster over the past few days, drafting point guard Ebuka Okorie, trading center Isaiah Stewart, trading for shooting guard Isaiah Joe and most recently signing John Collins to a three-year, $51 million deal.
But not everyone has been impressed by the Pistons' dealing, notably ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who has been underwhelmed by Detroit's offseason shuffling.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement"Is that all there is? Is this what the Pistons are doing?" he asked in a Wednesday episode of ESPN's NBA Today.
"During the regular season, they had an opportunity to upgrade. They had expiring money on their books, they didn't do anything, they wanted to be patient," he continued. "Now they have all this cap space, they have options to help them get playmaking, they have options to get more shooting ... I don't understand why they haven't taken this opportunity to more upgrade their roster."
In a rebuttal, former NBA center Kendrick Perkins defended the Collins deal.
"John Collins [has] a nice 15-footer, he can stretch it to the 3. All they need to do is re-sign Jalen Duren. I think the Pistons, if they get that done, they're in a better position this upcoming season than last year," he said.
It's worth noting that NBA free agency has just started, with the Pistons still able to make moves ahead of the 2026-27 season. It might take a truly big move to impress Windhorst, however.
