Family of ASU hockey player shares hope, faith after collapse

A sacred rock and a Miraculous Medal rest in the hospital room near Matthew Mayich's head at Barrow Neurological Institute. They are blessed and spiritual symbols that represent the miracle his family has prayed for since the 21-year-old hockey player collapsed during a workout at Arizona State University.

"We pray, if not for us, bring him back for everybody else," Christina Mayich, his mother, said in an interview with Canadian sportswriter Elliotte Friedman. "We know the situation and the severity, but every single one of us has this hope in our hearts, and this peace that we cannot explain."
