Fargo wrestling USA championship brackets, results, Day 1

The three-day tournament features the best from across the nation as they battle for the coveted trophy in the shape of a stop sign.

St. Vincent-St. Mary sophomore knocks off two-time national champion
Cole Palma (106 pounds) will never forget his second trip to Fargo. The STVM state placer rolled into his second match of the day and found a double champ on his of the bracket in Miro Parr-Coffin (Spokane, Wash.).
When it was over, Parr-Coffin was walking off the mat with a loss.
"Over the past few years, it's been more of a confidence thing," Palma said. "The way I've been coming short of the podium at these big tournaments and I got past that in this match."
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementPalma gave up a passivity point in the first period and was pushed out in the second to go down 2-0. Palma pushed the action and scored a takedown with nine seconds left. That made it 2-2, but because he scored a two-point takedown, he won on criteria.
"I just focus in on the goal," Palma said " It's one match at a time, like always, trusting in my coaches — they tell me what I need to know. It's trusting in my training.
"The win felt great. I knew I had a lot of friends on the side of the mat, coaches, a lot of people proud of me. I knew i had my family back home watching. That made me happy and really proud."
