After one of their biggest 2028 commitments to date, Penn State lost an opportunity to make an even bigger splash. Five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison was a premier prospect in this cycle that the Nittany Lions simply couldn't ignore due to his in-state credentials. However, legacy seemed to play a big role in Harrison's July 1 commitment to Penn State's biggest rival, Ohio State.

Harrison was the No. 4 recruit in the country in his class and No. 2 receiver. Still, the Harrison family name is intrinsically linked with the Columbus school. He is the brother of Marvin Harrison Jr., one of OSU's best receivers over the past couple of years. While he wasn't explicit about how he made his decision, Jett will now try to follow in his footsteps.

For Penn State, focus may shift toward internal development, as it welcomes transfer receivers Chase Sowell and Brett Eskildsen. Koby Howard returns. It may be up to those three players to bolster Penn State's standing among potential recruits. However, in the 2027 cycle, the Nittany Lions are still hoping they can land four-star prospect Khalil Taylor.

This decision will sting, but it doesn't mean the Nittany Lions should lose hope on the recruiting trail.
