Flyers linked with Connor McDavid after Leo Carlsson setback

The Philadelphia Flyers are now getting linked to Connor McDavid after their aggressive pursuit of Leo Carlsson fell short. Former NHL forward Todd Fedoruk suggested Philadelphia could become a destination if McDavid eventually explores his options.

“He is going to be a player who will be calling teams. His agent is going to be looking for him to go places. There are rumors that Philadelphia is a place that Connor McDavid wants to go,” Fedoruk said.

The comments arrived days after Anaheim matched the Flyers’ record five-year, $90 million offer sheet for Carlsson. Philadelphia kept its draft picks and cap space but missed out on the franchise center it targeted.

Fans quickly pushed back against Fedoruk’s claim.

One fan wrote, “I just can’t see it. Guy loves playing in Edmonton with his best friend Drai. They’re getting close to the cup. Now’s not the time to be leaving.”

Another fan questioned the idea by saying, “Agent calling teams while He’s under contract is called tampering, so it’s BS.”

A third added, “Todd Fedoruk needs to consult a neurosurgeon and have a CTE evaluation if this quote is accurate.”

One optimistic supporter said, “Flyers would win multiple cups if they got McDavid without giving up their young talent.”

Flyers still need a franchise center

Philadelphia’s failed Carlsson pursuit showed general manager Daniel Brière is willing to chase elite talent. Anaheim matched the offer, leaving the Flyers empty-handed but financially flexible for another major move.

Linking McDavid to Philadelphia remains speculation rather than a developing story. McDavid begins a two-year extension after accepting a team-friendly contract worth $12.5 million annually, while Leon Draisaitl carries a higher cap hit.

McDavid also supported Edmonton’s decision to hire Mike Babcock after last season’s first-round exit. His public backing suggests he remains invested in the Oilers’ direction despite outside rumors.

The 29-year-old produced 48 goals and 90 assists for 138 points in 82 games during the 2025-26 season. He also recorded six playoff points despite Edmonton’s early elimination.

Philadelphia clearly wants a superstar after missing on Carlsson. Until McDavid signals otherwise, though, any connection between him and the Flyers belongs in the rumor category rather than serious trade discussions.
