The Chicago White Sox will have plenty of representation during MLB All-Star week.

First baseman Munetaka Murakami will take part in the Home Run Derby on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Then, on Tuesday evening, the White Sox will have three players on the American League All-Star roster: Murakami, third baseman Miguel Vargas, and center fielder Tristan Peters.

Combine that with a team currently holding a playoff spot and an exciting haul in the recent MLB Draft, and there are plenty of reasons for White Sox fans to be excited. In addition to the current White Sox players taking part in the All-Star Game, a former White Sox starting pitcher will also get the ball and make the start for the American League.

Dylan Cease is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career in 2026 with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cease is 6-4 with a 2.56 ERA, an American League-best 148 strikeouts, and an MLB-best 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings. Cease also leads the AL with a 2.18 FIP and 6.1 hits allowed per nine innings, while his 0.5 home runs allowed per nine innings are the best mark in MLB.

At long last, the former White Sox right-hander is receiving the national recognition he deserves.

Back in 2022, Cease posted a 14-8 record with a 2.20 ERA as a member of the White Sox. He finished as the runner-up for the AL Cy Young Award that season but was still overlooked for an All-Star selection.

Four years later, after being traded to the San Diego Padres and signing a seven-year, $210 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays last winter, Cease has finally been named an All-Star for the first time in his career. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since the start of June, but his last two outings have been especially impressive.

Cease has thrown 15 scoreless innings while allowing only four hits and recording 20 strikeouts over his last two starts. In his most recent outing against the San Francisco Giants, he took yet another no-hitter into the ninth inning.

With Blue Jays manager John Schneider managing the American League All-Stars as the reigning AL pennant winner, selecting his ace to start the All-Star Game was a no-brainer.

It is a well-deserved honor for Cease. He has been among the most talented pitchers in the sport for several years, and he deserves all of the accolades coming his way now that he is putting the full extent of his natural ability on display.

I think plenty of White Sox fans are still quite fond of Cease and appreciative of his time in Chicago. His start gives those fans one more thing to watch for and root for during Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star Game.
