FSU baseball's transfer class has potentially taken a hit, with the Tampa Bay Rays taking commit Alex Philpott in the 16th round of the 2026 MLB Draft. They drafted the South Carolina transfer with the No. 473 overall pick, and he is the first member of FSU's transfer class to be drafted.

Philpott, who is from Tampa, spent the first two years of his career with the Florida Gators before transferring to South Carolina ahead of the 2026 season. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining if he does make it to Tallahassee.

He played in 16 games last season, making one start. He recorded a 6.51 ERA over 27.2 innings, going 0-5 with three saves. He allowed 20 runs on 27 hits and 15 walks, striking out 19 and hitting four. His best outing of the year came against Mississippi State, when he pitched four shutout innings, his longest outing of the season.

The righty appeared in 36 games during his two years with Florida, making six starts and recording two saves. He had a 7.12 ERA in 72 innings, going 5-6. Opponents hit .275 off him, scoring 57 runs on 72 hits and 34 walks. The 6-foot-6, 200-pounder had 72 strikeouts and has some experience against FSU.

Philpott is one of eight transfers that FSU has added this offseason, including five pitchers. FSU has had seven current players drafted, as well as their top two high school commits.
