FSU softball is known for recruiting top players in its sports. They've found an intriguing option who has now been named the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year.

McLaine Hudson, a shortstop out of South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky, has won the award in the state of Kentucky for both her on-field and off-field excellence. Per Gatorade, Hudson posted a .752 batting average, 78 RBI, 104 runs scored, and 26 homers in her season.

Her head coach had high praise for her, stating, "McLaine Hudson is the best player I’ve seen in the six years I’ve coached at Orange Beach. We tried everything when we pitched to her and had no success. You will hear her name a lot for the next four years in college."

Off the field, Hudson is a member of the Southern Kentucky Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also volunteers and donates to various charitable organizations throughout Kentucky. She is currently committed to Florida State's 2026 recruiting class. 2027 commit Addison DeRoche was named the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year.
