It’s a mondo-busy outing at the ballpark today! The Twins will induct Dick Bremer into their team Hall of Fame before today, will make their first-round selection of the 2026 Amateur Draft, and will try to beat the Los Angeles Angels. Which do you think will be the easiest task? Before you answer too quickly, just remember that anything can happen in the world of live ceremony. Podiums are way more fickle than you’d think.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementJoe Ryan and his recently-governmentally-lowered ERA will make the final pre-break appearance of the season, and he’ll do so — in the wake of such moves as the Tommy Nance acquisition — with some level of confidence that he’ll actually be on this team in August. Ryan Johnson (no relation; that’s not how that works at ALL) will get the ball for the Halos, where he’ll look to lower a career ERA of 7.12.
It’ll be fun to watch Dick get some flowers today, as the baseball world — which frequently creates cults of personality around long-tenured broadcasters — has never seemed to pay much mind to the man who called four decades’ worth of Twins baseball. But maybe that’s just a testament to Bremer’s quietly depdendable career, a man who embodied Twins fandom and Minnesota living to such a degree that it’s hard to divorce his voice from any Twin moment of the last 40 years. I still miss him on the telecasts, and if you haven’t had the chance to pick up his memoir or listen to his rare podcast appearance on Gleeman and the Geek earlier this year, this weekend is as great a chance as any.
