Get to Know Your Orange: #33 LB, Gemaus Sackie

It’s time to start preparing for the 2026 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 3 of the Fran Brown Era.

Hometown: Burlington Township, NJ

High School: Burlington Township

2025 stats: Sackie was a senior captain at Burlington Township High School in 2025. He won two division championships. Sackie earned two All-County selections and a First Team All-South Jersey selection during his time in high school.

2026 projections: Sackie is a name fans should get familiar with quickly. He won Syracuse’s spring defensive MVP award for 2026 spring practice. Given the defensive talent on this roster, for a relatively unknown and unheralded true freshman to win that award shows Sackie’s talent and work ethic immediately. The starting linebackers seem to be set for Syracuse. Behind that, Sackie could easily fit into the linebacker rotation on Week One.

How’d he get here?: Syracuse was the only Power Four school to offer Sackie. He committed to the Orange seven days after receiving his offer. Temple, Maine, Monmouth and Stony Brook were the only other teams to offer him.

What’d recruiting sites say?: All sites gave Sackie three stars. He was a consensus top-25 player in the state of New Jersey.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Sackie is fast as well, not just for a linebacker. He was part of a relay team in high school that set a 4x100m New Jersey state record with a 40.75 second time.
