Gibbs not present as Lions open training camp practice

Allen Park — Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was not present on the first day of training camp practice in Allen Park on Wednesday.

It's not certain that the pursuit of a new contract is the reason that Gibbs was not at practice. However, Gibbs was not included in the list of injured players that coach Dan Campbell provided updates for on Wednesday. Gibbs, the No. 12 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, became eligible to sign a contract extension in March.
