Twenty-two-year-old Khiara Keating has today joined Liverpool after the expiry of her Manchester City contract. The young keeper made her senior debut at 17, and debuted for England at the senior level last fall.

She made her first major impact at Manchester City in the 2023-24 WSL season, making 29 appearances in all competitions and winning the league Golden Glove Award. She featured nine times for City last season (with four clean sheets), as the club won a WSL and FA Cup double.

She will wear the number 12 shirt at Liverpool, where she will face different challenges — though she will reunite with former coach Gareth Taylor.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com about the move, Keating spoke with optimism and excitement about the coming challenge:

“I think everyone knows Liverpool worldwide. It’s such a big club and I think the women’s team is striving for greatness. I think the style of football that they play, they actually try to play – which suits me and my position. I think they’re just going in the right direction and [it is] a project that I want to be part of.”

Despite her youth, her wealth of experience allows for more reflection than would be expected for a 22-year-old:

“The start of my career has been nothing but amazing. I’ve gained platforms and done brilliantly so far. But I needed that missing [piece of the] puzzle.”

“And I think Liverpool can be that – where I’m playing week in, week out and I’m getting good game time, playing with a good team and winning trophies.”
