Mbappé also became the World Cup’s all-time leading scorer, with 22 goals to Lionel Messi’s 21. The Argentina captain had to settle for second place in this year’s standings with eight goals, while Jude Bellingham (England) and Erling Haaland (Norway) both scored seven, Bellingham shading third place with one assist to Haaland’s zero.
