The Cleveland Guardians have been holding their breath over the last 24 hours as they waited for results from Erik Sabrowski’s MRI, after the team placed him on the 15-day injured list on Monday afternoon.

Sabrowski doesn’t have a great history with elbow injuries. He’s already undergone a pair of Tommy John surgeries during his baseball career, and Stephen Vogt admitted that factored into the team’s decision not to take any chances.

While injuries never come with good news, it appears that Sabrowski’s status is a best-case scenario for the Guardians. Vogt shared ahead of Tuesday’s game that it appears the pitcher’s injury is just inflammation, and nothing more.

I think it was probably the best case scenario,” said Cleveland’s skipper ahead of Tuesday’s game.

“I thought the findings were, they came back with inflammation and that's about the best news you can get for somebody like Erik. He's very optimistic about it. JD and the medical staff are very optimistic about it. So good news.”

Vogt added that Sabrowski received an injection, and the team will go from there. As of now, there is no official timetable for when the left-hander could return to the mound.

Sabrowski added before the game that what he’s dealing with right now is “eerily” similar to what he dealt with during Spring Training in 2025. He started on the injured list at the beginning of last season, and didn’t make his season debut until __.

“I've got a long line of MRIs to refer back to, and they said this one looks no different than the other ones when I ended up being fine, so just a little setback for the season,” said the pitcher.

All things considered, Sabrowksi said the results are “wonderful news.”

Even though out of all the possibilities, Sabrowski’s injury appears to be an ideal outcome for the Guardians, they still have to wrestle with the fact that one of their top relievers will, at the very minimum, be out multiple weeks. The left-hander pitcher has a 1.71 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, with a strikeout rate of 47 percent so far on the season.

Cleveland’s bullpen is thin as it is, and now it’ll be relying on more pitchers to step up and fill the high-leverage innings Sabrowski was pitching in.
