Israeli forces killed two members of the Hamas organization in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, despite the ceasefire in force since mid-October, the Hamas-controlled Interior Ministry in the territory reported.

The ministry identified them as the head of one of Hamas's internal security departments and as another official responsible for security in the territory.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for confirmation.

The official Palestinian WAFA news agency reported that two people were killed and seven others were injured when Israeli planes targeted a vehicle in the Al-Berka area, south of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. It cited the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.

In recent months, the Israeli military has repeatedly announced targeted killings of suspected members of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza.

According to Israeli media reports, the military's objective is to locate and kill everyone who took part in the Hamas attack of 7 October 2023, which triggered the current war.

The Times of Israel has reported that around 2,000 suspected militants involved in the attack are believed to remain at large and that approximately 2,700 have already been killed, nearly half of them during the initial assault itself.
