Happy Birthday, Danilo D’Ambrosio!

Grit, heart, unwavering commitment, a fierce competitive spirit and a deep connection with Inter: Danilo D'Ambrosio turns 38 today, with the Club and the entire Nerazzurri family wishing him a very happy birthday. Nine seasons in an Inter shirt, five trophies, 284 appearances and 21 goals. To mark D'Ambrosio's birthday, we look back at one of his most iconic moments in Nerazzurri colours – a decisive piece of play that helped shape the Club's recent history.

It was the final game of the 2018/19 season at San Siro. Victory would take Inter back into the Champions League; defeat would send Empoli down. In many ways, the match became a microcosm of the Nerazzurri's entire campaign. Inter had to be patient before finding the breakthrough, with Keita finally opening the scoring in the second half after a fine individual move. What followed was pure drama. Icardi missed a penalty, then Empoli equalised in bizarre fashion as a low cross flashed all the way across the six-yard box before Traorè turned it in. Nainggolan put Inter back in front, reacting quickest after Vecino's effort came back off the post, but the closing stages were frantic. The Nerazzurri made a series of costly mistakes, while Empoli continued to threaten through the quality of players such as Di Lorenzo, Bennacer and Traorè. Through all the chaos, one Inter player remained completely focused. Danilo D'Ambrosio barely put a foot wrong and, with Handanovic already beaten, produced an extraordinary goal-line clearance.
