After the Hawks traded away Trae Young during the middle of the season, the expectations were fairly low for what would happen next.

The franchise had several young players, and they were in the middle of an interesting period where they weren't quite a tank-level team, but not a contender either.

They went on to finish as the #6 seed in the East and gave the Knicks their only two losses in the postseason so far.

This was viewed as somewhat of a success based on prior circumstances, and Hawks head coach Quin Snyder was rewarded for it.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday that Snyder and the Hawks agreed to terms on a multiyear contract extension.

This past season was Snyder's third full season with the team, and although they haven't had much postseason success, they seem to be in a new era with a vision for the future, after parting ways with Trae Young.

Snyder, 59, has been a head coach in the NBA for over a decade now, coaching the Hawks and several talented Jazz rosters.

The Jazz were never able to get as far as they hoped in the postseason with Snyder as the coach, but they had several regular seasons with a win% over 60%.

They have work to do to build around Jalen Johnson and their other young assets, but they have a rough framework for a roster that could improve quite a bit in the next couple of seasons.

Snyder appears to be the right veteran head coach to guide their roster in the next few years, as they hope to return close to how they played in the early 2020s.
