We are diving into some fantasy football content this offseason as we look to bring in all sorts of football fans to Bucs Wire. While offensive players often dominate fantasy football discussions, IDP leagues continue to grow in popularity, offering another way for fans to enjoy the game.

We will start with some rookie profiles and how they fit into the landscape of the teams that drafted them. Next up is Miami Dolphins linebacker Jacob Rodriguez.

Rodriguez heads to Miami after a highly productive four-year career at Texas Tech. His breakout came in 2025, when he totaled 94 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and seven interceptions while earning a 93.0 overall defensive grade from PFF. His instincts and ability to create turnovers made him one of the most accomplished linebackers in the 2026 draft class.

  • Reason to Believe in Jacob Rodriguez in 2026: Opportunity could grow quickly

    Rodriguez enters Miami behind Jordyn Brooks on the depth chart, which limits his immediate fantasy ceiling. Still, his instincts, football IQ, and ability to diagnose plays quickly give him a chance to earn defensive snaps if injuries occur or his role expands throughout the season.

    His strengths fit what defensive coordinators want from an inside linebacker. Rodriguez plays fast downhill, attacks blockers with active hands, and has consistently found ways to create turnovers. His quarterback background also shows up with strong communication skills and an advanced understanding of route concepts underneath.

    Miami's defensive front should also make life easier whenever Rodriguez is on the field. Zach Sieler and Kenneth Grant give the Dolphins plenty of size inside, while Bradley Chubb and Chop Robinson can create pressure off the edge. That supporting cast could allow Rodriguez to play aggressively whenever he earns meaningful snaps.

    Rodriguez is a talented linebacker whose fantasy value is tied almost entirely to opportunity. As things stand, Miami projects him behind an established veteran in Jordyn Brooks, making consistent weekly production difficult to trust in redraft leagues.

    His long-term outlook remains much brighter than his rookie projection. Rodriguez has the instincts, leadership and playmaking ability to eventually develop into a starting NFL linebacker, but fantasy managers may need to be patient before that translates into reliable IDP production.

    For 2026, Rodriguez is best viewed as a waiver-wire watch candidate in deeper IDP formats rather than someone who needs to be drafted. If injuries or an expanded role arrive, he has the talent to become a late-season contributor.
