The new hotel will be the second Holiday Inn Express property in Japan.
The 223-room hotel is situated in Susukino, which IHG describes as the largest entertainment district in northern Japan.
Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino general manager Kotake Seiichi said: "Susukino never stops — it's a neighbourhood full of energy, flavour and discovery, and we're thrilled to open the first Holiday Inn Express in Hokkaido right at its centre.

Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino is also the first hotel in Japan under the brand to feature the Generation 5 (Gen 5) design.
The Gen 5 concept focuses on flexible spaces designed around how guests move, work and relax.
In a statement, IHG said: "The design reflects the brand's promise of smart simplicity, delivering comfort, connectivity and everything guests need without anything they don't."
Guests also have access to a fitness centre, Wi-Fi and self-service laundry facilities.
