The 2025-26 school year and high school sports season just wrapped up about a month ago for MPSSAA teams, as spring state champions were crowned. And while everyone steps away for the summer break, the beginning of the next high school sports season is just one month away from kicking off in August.

From the first days teams are allowed to practice, to the first days when games will begin to take place, there are plenty of important upcoming dates for the 2026-27 fall sports season. And players, coaches and fans will want to keep an eye on those important dates all the way through the end of the upcoming fall season.

Here are the key dates for the upcoming Maryland High School Fall Sports season in the MPSSAA:

The first practice days for fall sports in the MPSSAA will be Aug. 12. Teams will then be allowed to get out on the field for the first time, holding tryouts and first practices for their teams.

The first play dates for sports like volleyball, field hockey, football, cross country and soccer will be Sept. 4, as teams in these fall sports begin to play their first games.

The last play dates for soccer, field hockey, football and volleyball, according to the MPSSAA website, are:

• Soccer: Oct. 24

• Field hockey: Oct. 28

• Football and volleyball: Oct. 31

Here is how the playoff schedule will unfold for each respective sport this fall

• Oct. 28: Regional Quarterfinals

• Oct. 30 & 31: Regional Semifinals

• Nov. 3: Regional Finals

• Nov 6 and 7: State Quarterfinals

• Nov. 13 and 14: State Semifinals:

Oct. 29 and 30: Regional Semifinals

Nov. 6 and 7: State Quarterfinals
