The Ministry of External Affairs dismissed a US lawmaker's remarks on the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill, 2026, saying such legislative matters are "our internal affairs."
The FCRA regulates foreign funding for NGOs, trusts, and religious groups in India.
Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said several countries, including the United States, regulate foreign funds and foreign financing.
"As far as legislative matters are concerned, and particularly matters relating to India's own legislation, this is an internal matter for us, on which our Parliament takes the decision," Jaiswal said.
"I would also like to tell you that there are several countries in the world, including the United States, that regulate foreign funds and foreign financing," he added.
The response came days after US lawmaker Riley Moore criticised the proposed amendments to India's foreign funding law, alleging that it will target Christians in the country.
Moore had said, "Christians have been in India since St. Thomas the Apostle travelled to the Malabar Coast just decades after the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. But despite this long Christian history, India's Parliament is considering amending Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment (FCRA) rules to permit government takeovers of churches and religious charities."

A man threw ink on protesting students during their march towards the Jharkhand State Assembly.
Neha Bora, leader of left-wing student party All India Students' Association (AISA), arrived in Ranchi from Delhi on Friday morning to join the ongoing students' protest.
She was allegedly targeted with black ink while leading a march of around a thousand students and activists.
The student protest over alleged exam irregularities in the state recruitment exams entered the 14th day today and has received widespread support from several student organisations across Jharkhand.
Indian newspaper The Indian Express reported that after the incident, Riya Tulika Pingua, a student protester, alleged that some unidentified persons entered the procession and threw black ink at women participants who were leading the march.
"They specifically threw ink at the women participants. I was there along with women members of AISA, Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha, SFI and AISF. It happened as we were leading the march," she said.
Responding to the incident, Bora said, "For them ink is a tool to try to shame others, we will write the future with ink!"
"I wear this ink with pride," she wrote in a social media post.
Meanwhile, one of the seven student protesters on an indefinite hunger strike was reportedly hospitalized due to deteriorating health.

The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) has accused 13 people in the NEET-UG 2026 paper 'leak' case.
In its investigation, the CBI has concluded that the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak was a well-coordinated conspiracy which involved people from multiple states and had National Testing Agency's (NTA) own subject experts sell the question papers through a network of middlemen.
The 13 accused include three NTA subject experts, coaching operators, middlemen and candidates.
The CBI has alleged that the NTA's subject experts exploited their official roles to illegally access the examination papers before the test and circulate them through a network of intermediaries.
The accused have been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

Less than a month after the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) staged a mass protest in Delhi, it has now announced a countrywide drive, "Kya bolti public" (What does the public say).
The campaign will focus on listening to young people's aspirations, concerns and ideas before drafting a citizen-driven Youth Reform Charter.
The CJP said it was keen to listen to the voices of ordinary people from different parts of the country.
Under the campaign, the CJP leadership will travel across the country from September 1 to gather inputs from the public.
"Education reform and unemployment remain at the very top of our priorities. We will also relentlessly push for institutional accountability because a democracy cannot function when institutions stop being accountable for their (in)actions," Das wrote.
To support its expansion, the CJP is also planning to launch a crowdfunding initiative. The announcements were made at the end of a two-day core committee meeting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the hometown of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke.

Midhat Fatimah | Dmytro Hubenko EditorHello! This is Midhat from the New Delhi bureau bringing you all the latest updates from across India.
The capital woke up to heavy rain for the second day in a row. The heavy downpour has resulted in water-logging and traffic snarls on busy roads.
The weather agencies also issued a three-hour red alert in Delhi.
After organizing an arguably successful protest, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has decided to act as a pressure group and bring forth issues affecting ordinary people. It has announced a nationwide campaign to address the issues, where education and its soaring costs will take precedence.
Demonstrations have continued in other parts of the country since the mass protests led by the CJP. Students in the eastern state of Jharkhand have announced a march to the state assembly to protest irregularities in state recruitment exams.
Meanwhile, India and China held talks to discuss border security and reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh.
Stay tuned for all this and more.
