Investigation into viral Geno Smith confrontation videos closed by police
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will not face charges in relation to a viral confrontation that occurred at his residence in Davie, Florida, on June 21.
The Davie Police Department has declared the case into Smith inactive "due to the inability to review surveillance footage, conflicting stories, and lack of independent witnesses," according to a police report obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

Each was listed as having an "apparent minor injury." Smith was observed to have two scratches on the right side of his face and a "knot" on the back of his head while the woman had a cut on the webbing of her right hand and a bruise on her left arm "which appeared to be from being grabbed."
The investigating officer noted Smith and the woman's account of what occurred "greatly deviated" from one another.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementEach was prompted to provide a sworn statement of what they allege occurred. The woman indicated she would but did not show up to provide one despite scheduling to do so on two different occasions, June 24 and July 9.
Meanwhile, Smith's legal representation told police July 9 he would not be providing a statement at this time.
That led the investigating officer to recommend changing the case status from active to inactive.

What to know about incident that sparked Geno Smith investigation
The original investigation into Smith was launched shortly after a woman shared three Instagram videos on June 21 showing her confronting Smith outside of his home and in his garage.

The 85-second video showed point-of-view shots of the woman confronting Smith. He was heard on the video telling the woman to "stay away from my family" while talking on the phone before retreating into his house.
Following that, the woman ran in the direction of the street holding her phone up and screaming for help, though no one appeared to be chasing her. That prompted Smith to return to his driveway and tell her to "leave my neighborhood." The altercation then continued when the woman approached the 35-year-old after he entered one of the cars parked in his driveway.
The video ended with a brief shot of Smith speaking to three police officers and a caption reading, "Charges, PRESSED!"
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAuthorities did not take anyone into custody as part of their response. The Davie Police Department originally told USA TODAY Sports the investigation had been closed as of June 22 but later clarified it would remain open.
"We were informed earlier this evening, that during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by a detective," a spokesperson for the police department said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports on June 22. "It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time."
But now, the case is officially inactive. Smith is not facing charges from the confrontation and will be free to focus on the 2026 NFL season, which will be his first with the Jets in a decade.
Smith completed 67.4% of his passes for 3,025 yards, 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 15 starts with the Las Vegas Raiders last season.
