Iran laid to rest its former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei early Friday overfour months after he was killed in an airstrike.
Khamenei's flag-covered coffin was carried into the shrine of Imam Reza in his home city of Mashhad in eastern Iran as a sea of people waited outside and listened to prayers. There was no public appearance by his son and successor, Mojtaba Khamenei.
The "body of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution was buried in the memorial hall of the shrine of Imam Reza," state broadcaster IRIB reported.
The burial follows a week of funeral processions, rallies and mourning. The ceremonies coincided with a new round of conflict with the United States following weeks of a truce.

The Iranian judiciary's Mizan News Agency on Thursday reported that three members of the Revolutionary Guards had been killed in the latest US strikes on the country.
The government press office had already said that 14 people killed and another 78 injured during the second consecutive night of attacks but had not said if they were soldiers or civilians.
State media also reported that Iran had fired 10 ballistic missiles at Jordan's Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq, a launch point for the US in the region, as part of its response. Air raid sirens had sounded in Jordan earlier on Thursday.

There have been reports of explosions at several locations in Iran, including Bushehr where Iran's nuclear power plant complex is located.
"Several areas in Bushehr province were targeted today, including the perimeter of the nuclear power plant, a military base in the town of Choghadak and a fishing pier in the south of the province," Iranian state media quoted Ehsan Jahanian, the deputy governor of Bushehr province, as saying.
He added that there were no reports of casualties so far.
IRNA news agency quoted Jahanian as saying that the US strike near the nuclear facility happened around noon, hours after the US military said it had ended its latest round of strikes on Iran.
In April, the UN's nuclear watchdog warned that attacks near the plant "pose a very real danger to nuclear safety and must stop."
Non-profit monitor ACLED has reported four strikes near the nuclear facility during the Iran war.

Sirens blared in Jordan on Thursday afternoon after missiles launched from Iran were detected in Jordanian airspace, state media reported.
The warning came just hours after Iran's military said it had launched retaliatory attacks on sites in Gulf states.
"Alarm sirens sounded in Jordan on Thursday to alert citizens and urge them to follow instructions," reported state broadcaster Al-Mamlaka.
It cited a government spokesperson as saying that the Jordanian Armed Forces were on high alert and ready to deal with any threat targeting the kingdom's security.
Iran's state-linked Fars news agency reported that Iran's military had "launched a new wave of drone attacks against US military bases and strategic facilities in the Persian Gulf region."
Fars reported that it was in retaliation for US strikes on Iranian cities. The agency cited an Iranian military statement as saying that a large number of attack drones had targeted a Patriot air defense system in Kuwait, satellite antenna in Qatar and fuel storage facilities belonging to the US military in Bahrain.
The US has a significant military presence in Jordan.

US airstrikes have struck bridges in northern Iran's Golestan province, according to state-linked news agency Fars and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Fars reported that the Aq Taqeh Khan railway bridge was hit and described it as an important trade link with China and Russia.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard said that two bridges were struck on the route between Tehran and Mashhad, where the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is to be buried on Thursday.
Iran's state news agency IRNA reported suspended services on the line, but it was unclear whether the closure impacted those traveling to Mashhad for Khamenei's burial.
Iran's Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, condemned US strikes in the country and said targeting civilian infrastructure was a "gross war crime."
It said in a statement that it "condemns in the strongest terms the aggressive attacks by the US terrorist army on several points in the southern coastal provinces and two bridges in the eastern provinces on the railway route to the holy city of Mashhad."

Qatar's prime minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, has called for "dialogue and diplomacy" in a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, a statement from the Qatari Foreign Ministry said.
Al-Thani condemned the attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, saying they would "undermine trust, threaten international maritime security, and harm efforts to consolidate regional security and stability," the statement said.
Al-Thani stressed the need "for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy."
The Qatari PM said diplomacy was needed in order to implement what was agreed on as part of the interim peace accord between Iran and the US.
Iran launched drones towards Qatar earlier on Thursday following US strikes on Iranian targets overnight. A Qatari tanker was also attacked in the Strait of Hormuz earlier in the week.

An AFP correspondent in Bahrain's capital, Manama, has reported hearing explosions as air-raid sirens were activated for a third time.
It came just hours after retaliatory Iranian attacks overnight.

Bahrain is home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters.

Bahrain's Defense Force has confirmed it was attacked in overnight Iranian strikes it said were "targeting civilians in the Kingdom of Bahrain."
In a statement issued on social media, Bahrain's military said that air defense systems "intercepted and destroyed several treacherous Iranian aerial attacks this morning, Thursday, July 9, 2026."
The statement went on to say that the defense force remained on high alert in order to protect the kingdom.
"General Command urges everyone to exercise caution and refrain from approaching or touching any strange or suspicious objects resulting from the remnants of the brutal Iranian aggression, and to report them immediately," Bahrain's military said.
The US launched new airstrikes against Iran early Thursday, while Tehran responded by targeting Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar in crossfire that again threatens an interim deal aimed at ending the war.

The funeral procession for slain Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei is reaching its final stages, with his burial expected to take place on Thursday.
The multi-day funeral proceedings have attracted millions of mourners in cities across Iran and Iraq. Now Iranians are preparing to lay Khamenei to rest in his hometown of Mashhad in northeastern Iran.
The governor of Mashhad, Hassan Hosseini, told state television he "expects 15 million people" to attend Khamenei's funeral.
The state-run IRNA news agency reported that Khamenei is to be buried Thursday evening in the Shrine of Imam Reza.
It is considered Iran's most revered place of worship. Imam Reza is the only one of the 12 Shia imams buried in Iran.
Khamenei was killed on the first day of US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

The US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) said that US forces "completed an additional round of strikes against Iran" overnight.
CENTCOM, which is responsible for military operations in the Middle East region, said the strikes were to "further degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz."
It said US forces struck 90 Iranian military targets, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran's coastline.
CENTCOM said earlier that US forces hit 80 Iranian targets including small vessels belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during a first round of strikes on Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump made a very brief stopover at a British Royal Air Force (RAF) base where he changed planes en route to the United States from the NATO summit in Turkey.
But he denied that the move had anything to do with security fears or threats to the aircraft, telling reporters: "I have a threat all the time. I'm number one of their list."
Trump and his entourage flew from Ankara to RAF Mildenhall in the eastern English county of Suffolk on the old Air Force One plane before switching to the new model donated to him by the state of Qatar last year.
He had earlier said on social media that the "brand new, and truly spectacular, Air Force One" was being sent to the UK air base to give US military personnel stationed there "a chance to tour the Aircraft."
He said he flew from Turkey to the United Kingdom on board the previous Air Force One "for old time's sake."
The New York Times reported late Wednesday that the switch was made at the request of the US Secret Service "as a security precaution."
The US newspaper, citing unnamed sources, said the new plane lacks some capabilities of the old plane, but that the switch was not made because of a specific threat.

US President Donald Trump claimed during his flight back to Washington from the NATO summit in Turkey on Thursday morning that Iran had "called a little while ago" and "want[ed] to make a deal so badly."
"I just don't know if they're worthy of making a deal," he told reporters on board Air Force One. "I don't know that they're going to honor the deal, that's the problem."
Asked why Iranian forces were continuing to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz if they were interested in a deal, Trump responded that they were "sort of crazy."
The exchange reportedly took place after the United States had launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
In the past, Trump has frequently reported phone calls or conversations that were later disputed either in whole or in part by the other side.

Iran's chief negotiator has warned the United States of the futility of continued military strikes and said the Strait of Hormuz will only be reopened on Tehran's terms.
"Don't flail around pointlessly, or you'll sink even deeper," Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote on social media on Thursday morning. "The Strait of Hormuz will only open with 'Iranian arrangements,' not American threats."
Ghalibaf, who is also the speaker of the Iranian parliament, also warned the US that Iran will continue to respond to strikes, saying:
"America still hasn't learned that bullying and breaking promises are no longer cost-free. Let me put it plainly: if you strike, you'll get hit."
