The Hezbollah militia has launched an armed drone at an Israeli army vehicle in southern Lebanon for the first time in over a month, the Israeli military reported on Wednesday.

The Iran-backed group last used drones of this kind before the latest ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect in June. Earlier attacks killed Israeli soldiers on several occasions.

The Israeli military described the latest incident as a "blatant violation of the ceasefire." In a statement, the military said no soldiers were injured in the overnight attack. The Jerusalem Post reported that Israel intended to respond.

Media reports said the incident occurred near the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh, where Hezbollah is believed to maintain a large underground complex in which dozens of members of the group are thought to have taken shelter.

A renewed ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect since June 19.

After several unsuccessful attempts, hostilities have decreased significantly. However, Israel has continued military operations in southern Lebanon, saying the strikes are aimed at neutralizing threats posed by Hezbollah to Israeli forces.

After decades of conflict, Israel and the Lebanese government also agreed at the end of June on a framework intended to move toward peace and security. Hezbollah was not involved in the negotiations and has firmly opposed the disarmament provisions included in the deal.

Representatives of Israel and neighbouring Lebanon are expected to meet again in Rome next week for further talks.
