Northern Israel came under renewed rocket fire from Lebanon on Sunday, with the Israeli army saying its air defences had intercepted two projectiles that crossed into Israeli territory.

Rocket alerts sounded in the communities of Jiftach and Ramot Naftali. There were no reports of casualties.

In recent days, Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a new attempt to implement a ceasefire that has so far been largely ineffective in practice. But Hezbollah rejected the agreed terms, and shortly afterwards the Iran-backed militia launched fresh attacks.

By Thursday morning, reports of numerous Israeli strikes in Lebanon had emerged.

The Lebanese government is not a party to the conflict and only has limited influence over Hezbollah. The Iran-backed militia was not involved in the ceasefire negotiations.
