The Israeli military said on Monday that it had killed a Hamas commander who was also working as a doctor at a hospital in the Gaza Strip, despite an ongoing ceasefire.

The man was killed on Saturday in what the military described as a "precise strike" in the central Gaza Strip.

The military said he had served as a company commander in Hamas' military wing and carried out attacks on Israel. It said he also worked at the Yafa Hospital in the city of Deir al-Balah.

Staff at the hospital confirmed the doctor's death in an Israeli attack but denied that he had any links to Hamas. The man was said to have been the head of the anaesthesia department at the clinic. So far, Hamas has not confirmed that he was a member of the organization either.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA also reported one person killed in an Israeli air strike in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza on Monday afternoon. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the report.
